William Dunbar joined Code Lyoko in the second season as one of Yumi's classmates. He became the sixth member of Team Lyoko, until his first trip into Lyoko, when XANA possessed him and used him as his servant until the end of the series where he was freed.

At Kadic

William is kind of a loner at first, but Yumi soon takes to him as a friend. To no surprise, William wants to be more than just friends, causing conflict between him and Ulrich. Later, in the third season, Jeremie suggests to the team that William join their group, much to the disagreement of the rest of our warriors. As fighting on Lyoko becomes harder and harder, the group decides to let William join. After XANA uses the Scyphozoa to take control of William's mind and body, Jeremie creates a stable polymorphic specter with William's basic memories, and a basic personality. Over time, this "clone" becomes much more popular than William was, but due to his 'dumb' personality he unknowingly causes trouble for our warriors. His personality also becomes a bit of a gag in the show, best seen in the episode Wreck Room. In episode Down to Earth, William is finally freed from XANA's control, returns back to normal and returns to Earth.

Lyoko Form

William wields a sword called Zweihander. It's name literally means "Two-Hander". Traditionally, Zweihanders are wielded with two hands due to their great weight. Evidence of the sword's weight can be found in the episode 'Final Round', when William attempted to hold it with one hand, and then dropped it. His sword also fires energy blasts when he swings it. However it is unknown whether it was an ability given to him by X.A.N.A., or if he already had it before.

Lyoko Powers (While under XANA's control)

• Super Smoke: An ability much like Ulrich's Super Sprint, but instead of simply running at speed, William becomes smoke to pass away from people, monsters or things. The black smoke can suspend other people in a paralyzed state. Super Smoke is known to be by far even faster than Ulrich's Super Sprint.
• Far Sight (Tentative name): The ability to see much farther away in the same sector.
• Ability to activate a tower for XANA
• Control over XANA's monsters
• Limited hovering

Vehicle

Black Manta - A unique Manta for William to ride on as a vehicle.
A Nav Skid was created for William, but he was given a black, independent one by XANA called the Rorkal.

Trivia

• While possessed by XANA in Lyoko, his sword's look changes, making a resemblance to the Soul Edge from the Soulcalibur series and having an eye of XANA just above the grip.
• His sword also bears an uncanny resemblance to the Buster Sword wielded by Final Fantasy VII's protagonist, Cloud Strife.
• His outfit bears an uncanny resemblance to the one of the Prince of Persia in the game The Two Thrones as well as Darkness Riku's outfit from the Kingdom Hearts games.
• He was first to get a new outfit.
• X.A.N.A. likely chose to possess William because it saw the most potential in him as a weapon out of all the other Lyoko Warriors due to his recklessness.
• In Episode "Vertigo", It is revealed that he's afraid of spiders.
• There was an unused Nav Skid on the Skidbladnir when it was created. It was, most likely, intended to be used by William in case he was taken back from XANA's control, however it remains unused until the Skid's destruction.
  • XANA made another one for him named "Rorkal".
• He was the last person in the real world to be possessed by XANA.
• Oddly, in a Lack of Goodwill, he wore the new clothes his clone had. But when in Down to Earth, when he is freed from X.A.N.A, he was wearing his old clothes.
• In the Final Round, he began to glow purple under X.A.N.A's control when he ran super fast or levitated. Later in the series, he just turns to smoke in order to be faster
• Odd's arrows couldn't hurt him while he was a cloud of smoke, in Bragging Rights
• he's the only one to be transfered to Lyoko that is a member of the team that was wasn't at first, though, thats because XANA controlled him (at first)

X.A.N.A

X.A.N.A

X.A.N.A is a malevolent sentient artificial intelligence that seems to only exist to take over the world. It has the ability to launch attacks, like controlling and manipulating lightning and electricity and possessing people, by activating Towers in Lyoko.

Personality

X.A.N.A., being just a multi-agent program, albeit an abnormally strong and dangerous one, does not have much of a personality. Nevertheless, it often has specific attributes that identify it.

For starters, X.A.N.A is incredibly intelligent and knows almost everything scientific about Earth. It utilizes cunning and stealth in its schemes, often hiding them until the last moment; unlike many other fictional villains, who arrogantly boast about their grand plans.

X.A.N.A is capable of developing advanced strategies, as shown in countless episodes where it attacks right as all the warriors are together, or when he manipulates their emotions to have them act in his favor.
It also has a moderate understanding of human emotions; it cannot grasp complex emotions like love and compassion, but can easily understand ones such as anger, envy, and fear. It seems to have a particular "hatred" against Jeremie as well even more than the other Lyoko Warriors.
X.A.N.A. also seems to be able to weigh the risks and benefits of a situation, as shown in Saint Valentine's Day, when it released Aelita, its key to escaping, from its control when Odd started firing at her. Other times, X.A.N.A.'s monsters would hold their fire, refusing to shoot at Aelita.

Finally, like most fictional villains, X.A.N.A.'s most dominant trait is that it values Team Lyoko's destruction over everything except for its own survival. As seen in Marabounta, it teamed up with Team Lyoko to eliminate the Marabounta, an immediate threat. It also refrained from attacking the Factory in seasons 1 and 2, for obvious reasons (though more than once it did deactivate the Scanners in a failed attempt to kill the warriors). However that weakness was eliminated, when it escaped from the Supercomputer at the end of the second season. From that point on it tried its hardest to destroy the factory (more in the fourth season instead of the third season), so to eliminate the Lyoko Warriors' constant interference once and for all.

Appearance

As stated above, X.A.N.A. is a multi-agent program, and because of this doesn't have a physical manifestation like humans do. Even its monsters are just its servants that it created, not X.A.N.A. itself. Some fans believe that X.A.N.A. is actually a spectre, but it has been proven spectres are not actually X.A.N.A., just extensions of his will. In the second season, X.A.N.A. possessed people, but once again, even that was just X.A.N.A. inside a person's body, and not X.A.N.A. itself. The same applies for polymorphic clones. The only thing one could count as being X.A.N.A. is the Eye of X.A.N.A., which is just a symbol. In fact, since that same symbol is seen on the platforms of the Towers, on the Supercomputer, on the Transport Orb, and on the Core of Lyoko in Carthage, the Eye of X.A.N.A. is more likely to be the symbol of all of Lyoko, not X.A.N.A. alone. The only real physical incarnation of X.A.N.A. is seen in Fight to the Finish. Just as X.A.N.A. is being destroyed, its ghost is forced out of William and is seen writhing and screaming in agony and pain, and right before it disappears a human face is seen.

Behind the Scenes

X.A.N.A. is voiced by David Gasman in the American version of Code: LYOKO, whom also voices Herb, Jim, and William. In the original pilot Garage Kids, Lyoko was called Xanadu, and X.A.N.A. is based on that name. As of the most recent episode, Echoes , it is still unknown what X.A.N.A. stands for.

Ice Sector

The Ice Barrier is a sector of Lyoko. It is sometimes referred to as the Polar Region (because it is covered in ice) or Sector 1 (as referred to in Mister Pück and Saint Valentine's Day). It also has Virtual Weather, as Jeremie pointed out in The Girl of the Dreams and in a way by Odd in Cold War.

The Ice Barrier is made up of two parts. The first part is the surface, composed of glaciers connected by narrow paths and large lakes of icy water. Monsters cannot swim, so the icy waters will destroy them if they fall into it. Most of the Towers are based on the surface. The second part of the sector is below the surface; tunnels connect the two areas. Team Lyoko often has to surf down these tunnels to get to an activated Tower.

The Ice Barrier is home to all kinds of monsters, such as Bloks, Hornets, and Mantas. Due to its difficult range of reachable locations, XANA placed his Boulogne-Billiancourt simulation program there in Ghost Channel.

In Sabotage, XANA activated a Tower in the Ice Barrier that was too well-guarded for our heroes to reach, and they were running out of time, so Aelita deleted the Ice Barrier at her own will.

The Ice Barrier made its first reappearance in Crash Course, as it was recreated along with all the other outer sectors between the episodes William Returns and Double Take.

In season 1 this sector used to have a strange light source that was always lighting and shadowing Team Lyoko's faces. It is most likely that it is Carthage's shining outer shell, but it is unknown why the light was taken away in season 2.

Desert Sector

The Desert Sector is a sector of Lyoko. It is also the one with the most dangerous monster attacks; most of the creatures can get around easily here. The Desert is made out of a collection of dry, rocky plateaus. There is very little greenery, the only trees being scattered here and there. Here, XANA can create sandstorms, break apart the plateaus, and even tilt them at 90° angles to immobilize the warriors.

The Desert is made up of two levels: the lower and higher levels. The higher level's plateaus are very large, and most towers in the sector can be found here. Large creatures, such as Megatanks, Blocks, and Krabes inhabit this area. The lower level's plateaus are very small, and small sharp rocks are littered.

In The Pretender, XANA possessed Aelita and used her to completely destroy the Desert. However, Jeremie and Aelita manage to recreate the Desert sector in Double Take as it was the first surface sector to make a reapearance. Fans have given it the name Sector 2. This is mainly because it is opposite of the Mountains Sector, which fans have dubbed Sector 4.

Mountain Sector

The Mountain Sector is a sector of Lyoko on Code Lyoko. The Mountains are heavily obscured by 'fog', especially the digital sea. Also with narrow bridges and moving platforms you won't find towers in hidden places as they are usually out in the open. In Season One, the mountains were a different color, being a dull and dark shade of purple. Normally when towers are activated in this territory, Bloks and Hornets usually guard them because they have advantage in this territory.


Appearances by the Scyphozoa and other monsters have happened as well. Sometimes, when the Lyoko Warriors jump off a platform, they are found in a different part of the sector.this sector was destroyed by aelita by entering code xana in the way tower in double trouble.
