Ice Sector

Ice Sector

The Ice Barrier is a sector of Lyoko. It is sometimes referred to as the Polar Region (because it is covered in ice) or Sector 1 (as referred to in Mister Pück and Saint Valentine's Day). It also has Virtual Weather, as Jeremie pointed out in The Girl of the Dreams and in a way by Odd in Cold War.

The Ice Barrier is made up of two parts. The first part is the surface, composed of glaciers connected by narrow paths and large lakes of icy water. Monsters cannot swim, so the icy waters will destroy them if they fall into it. Most of the Towers are based on the surface. The second part of the sector is below the surface; tunnels connect the two areas. Team Lyoko often has to surf down these tunnels to get to an activated Tower.

The Ice Barrier is home to all kinds of monsters, such as Bloks, Hornets, and Mantas. Due to its difficult range of reachable locations, XANA placed his Boulogne-Billiancourt simulation program there in Ghost Channel.

In Sabotage, XANA activated a Tower in the Ice Barrier that was too well-guarded for our heroes to reach, and they were running out of time, so Aelita deleted the Ice Barrier at her own will.

The Ice Barrier made its first reappearance in Crash Course, as it was recreated along with all the other outer sectors between the episodes William Returns and Double Take.

In season 1 this sector used to have a strange light source that was always lighting and shadowing Team Lyoko's faces. It is most likely that it is Carthage's shining outer shell, but it is unknown why the light was taken away in season 2.

Desert Sector

The Desert Sector is a sector of Lyoko. It is also the one with the most dangerous monster attacks; most of the creatures can get around easily here. The Desert is made out of a collection of dry, rocky plateaus. There is very little greenery, the only trees being scattered here and there. Here, XANA can create sandstorms, break apart the plateaus, and even tilt them at 90° angles to immobilize the warriors.

The Desert is made up of two levels: the lower and higher levels. The higher level's plateaus are very large, and most towers in the sector can be found here. Large creatures, such as Megatanks, Blocks, and Krabes inhabit this area. The lower level's plateaus are very small, and small sharp rocks are littered.

In The Pretender, XANA possessed Aelita and used her to completely destroy the Desert. However, Jeremie and Aelita manage to recreate the Desert sector in Double Take as it was the first surface sector to make a reapearance. Fans have given it the name Sector 2. This is mainly because it is opposite of the Mountains Sector, which fans have dubbed Sector 4.

Mountain Sector

The Mountain Sector is a sector of Lyoko on Code Lyoko. The Mountains are heavily obscured by 'fog', especially the digital sea. Also with narrow bridges and moving platforms you won't find towers in hidden places as they are usually out in the open. In Season One, the mountains were a different color, being a dull and dark shade of purple. Normally when towers are activated in this territory, Bloks and Hornets usually guard them because they have advantage in this territory.

Appearances by the Scyphozoa and other monsters have happened as well. Sometimes, when the Lyoko Warriors jump off a platform, they are found in a different part of the sector.this sector was destroyed by aelita by entering code xana in the way tower in double trouble.

Forest sector

The Forest Sector is a sector of Lyoko. It is mostly a complex series of paths intertwining between thousands of trees. Large open areas does not occur like those in the Desert Sector and Ice Sector. It also has a lot of hollow tree trunks which connects areas of the Forest and has often saved the lives of our Heroes. Despite the fact that paths are narrow in this sector, XANA often sends his largest monsters, such as Megatanks and krabs, to attack our heroes when they are trying to deactivate a Tower there. It is also the only sector in which XANA directly attacked , once in Code: Earth and again in Contact.

The appearance of the sector changed noticeably from Season 1 to Season 2. In Season 2, the sector had a "morning look" (the lighting) and the paths were more detailed. In Season 1, the path was a dull green and there were far less trees. The lighting was also taken out.

In Lyoko Minus One, XANA possessed Aelita and destroyed the Forest.
The forest was recreated between the episodes William Returns and Double Take by Jeremie and Aelita. It made its first reappearance in Opening Act and the new forest appears to have new areas added on such as the forest arena seen in Opening Act. In Marabounta, black goo is placed in there and grows all around the sector. It dematerializes our heroes including monsters.

The forest sector is numbered as Sector 3, as it is opposite Sector 1.

Carthage

First Appearance Uncharted Territory

Carthage, also known as Sector 5, is the hub of Lyoko and is spherical in shape, connected to the four sectors by data-tunnels. It seems to house much crucial data relating to Lyoko, the supercomputer's functions, and XANA. It was named after the Project Carthage.

The walls of Carthage are a light blue and covered in a moving binary code. Whenever Team Lyoko comes to Carthage, the blue blocks the sector is made of automatically arranges itself into a random, maze-like layout. Every new layout is never the same as any previous one, and usually is still arranging itself while Team Lyoko is inside. Upon entering Carthage, they can either take the elevator which carries them up to an interface panel on Carthage's surface or to their Virtual Ship. The interface panel has a direct link to the supercomputer, thus allowing Aelita to help Jeremy recover information from it. Carthage, like any sector, has Towers. Only one has been seen to date however.

It is also implied that this is no normal tower, as Jeremie had no idea of it's existence beforehand. Other features of the sector include booby traps and security lasers, all of which either take away a lot of life points or devirtualize anybody. The Digital Void is not present here, instead, falling into the celestrial dome in the outer rim of the sector ensures ultimate deletion.

Carthage is, like any other sector, inhabited by monsters. Creepers and Mantas can be found all over, but the sector's most infamous denizen is the Scyphozoa. The Creepers are the only beings which do not (or cannot) leave the sector.

In William Returns, Jeremie and Aelita use data transferred to them by Franz Hopper to recreate Carthage, in this recreation they made it so that there was no longer a key, except for one that is used to access the Core of Lyoko, so there was no more countdown and it seems as though there is no more interface as the data within would no longer be XANA's. The elevator seems to be moving more slowly now, and when someone needs to get on it, the elevator now stops to allow our heroes to board it. In William Returns William opens a tunnel and takes Aelita to the place where the desert sector stood before (now recreated in Double Take), the outer shell of the celestial dome now has a gray craggy appearance with cracked holes that showed the exits of the tunnels. Before Carthage was destroyed by William, the outer shell shined with a bright light.

Parts of Carthage

Carthage is divided into five unique parts:
  • The Arena: This is the spot where the Transport Orb used to drop off Aelita and the other Lyoko warriors. Now the group can simply be virtualized directly into Carthage. The group must stand still for a few seconds so that the wall will open.
  • The Core Zone: The most recognizable area of Carthage. Before Carthage was rebuilt, a 3 minute countdown started for the group to find the Key. Pushing the Key would cause a corridor leading to the Elevator to open. If the Key was not found in time, the group would be trapped in Carthage until someone else entered. The Core Zone is different everytime somebody enters.
  • The Elevator: The elevator runs all the way around the Core Zone. It can move up, down, and sideways. It only stops at the Celestial Dome. It is unknown whether Jeremie and Aelita created a separate elevator to access the Skidbladnir Hangar.
  • The Celestial Dome: The exit point of Carthage. It has an interface that gives access to XANA's own data, but it is unknown if this could be used anymore. When a Lyoko Warrior enters, Mantas usually come out of the outer sphere. It is usually full of Manta eggs.
  • Lyoko's Core: This is the most important part of Lyoko. The core contains all of the data within the supercomputer. The room where the core is located can be accessed through the south pole of Carthage. In Final Round a possessed William managed to destroy the core, thus destroying Lyoko. The core was recreated in William Returns and made its first reappearance in I'd Rather Not Talk About It when William launched an attack on it.
  • The Interface: It gives access to XANA's memory. It was only used by Aelita. After Carthage was rebuilt, it is unknown if the interface can be accessed again.
  • The Tunnels. There are 4 tunnels leading to the other 4 sectors. These are used to get the warriors out of Sector 5 without devirtualizing them.
  • The Key: It is used by hitting it. It prevents the countdown reaching to zero. If it does end up reaching to 0, the warriors must run back to the Arena. Yumi was the first to discover some of this information.

Digital Sea

Digital Sea

Monsters Seen Sharks, Kongres, Kalamar
The Digital Sea is a liquid sea that resides below all of the four main sector and is how the Lyoko program portrays the supercomputer's DOS or DOS's quantum computer equivalent. Another theory is that it portrays the trash folder. Aelita uses this to her advantage by dropping monsters into the Void using her Creativity. When a monster goes into the Void, a beautiful white column of light emenates from it. It is the most forbidden place in Lyoko due to the deletion it causes.

The Digital Sea is Lyoko's portrayal of the Internet, as the Internet was needed to create Lyoko, Lyoko shows the Internet as an actual sea to signify that all life needs water. Though it's actual properties are quite the opposite. If someone falls into the Digital Sea, their data is swept away in the "digital tide" and would be next to imposible to collect all their data back to re-create them. In some instances, XANA used this to his advantage in Tidal Wave when he managed to flood Lyoko in order to protect his activated tower and to keep anyone else from entering Lyoko until the problem was fixed.

So far, there has been only one known incident of a person falling into the Digital Sea. Yumi fell into the Digital Void in Cruel Dilemma, but Jeremie was able to use the one-shot materialization program that Odd accidentally completed by dropping candy on Jeremie's keyboard to save Yumi and bring her back to Earth. It is unknown if Jeremie's current version of the materialization program would be capable of performing a similar rescue. Nevertheless, Team Lyoko continue to avoid falling into the Digital Sea at all costs.

According to Aelita in Maiden Voyage, the Digital Sea is a small part the The World Network.
There are various Hubs in the Digital Sea that Aelita can guide the Skidbladnir into to teleport to other Hubs once Jeremie has entered the coordinates for them. They are often used when the Lyoko Warriors need quick transportation to different places, usually X.A.N.A.'s replicas of Lyoko.
